About Us:

Genesis Wildlife Sanctuary is a non-profit organization in helping to rescue exotic and endangered animals. Some of our animals were taken by the Game Comission, abondaned by private owners or have been taken from small zoo's that were closing, alot of these animals are considered "throw aways" by people when they are no longer of any use to them. When their usefulness is over, or they get too old or sick, the next step is to euthanize them. We step in because we see more life left for them. Genesis tries to give these animals a home filled with love, hands on affection, and peace for whatever time they have left. We feel they have more quality of life to share with other people, people who have never seen some of these animals and may never again because some are endangered. Margie Miller is the Director and owner of these exquiste animals. She was asked by Mayor Chris Doherty of Scranton to move her animals from the wildlife facility at Pocono Lake to Nay Aug Park in August of 2003. We are always in need of donations for our animals, it costs approx. $150,000 yearly to run our facility. The city gives us $50,000 plus the buildling to house the animals. Ms. Miller has spent more than $100,000 on food, cleaning supplies, and some employees salaries yearly. The Center needs donations to compensate for the lack of money for other expenditures out of Ms.Miller's pocket. She is retired and takes no salary from the Center. Genesis is in need of food for the animals such as: bananas, grapes, lettuce, carrots, bird seed, monkey chow biscuits, and any other produce. We are required by U.S.D.A to meet certain nutritional requirements for our animals. Meat alone costs $3,500 per pallet for the cats. Some local businesses donate produce and meat to help us. All animals at Genesis Wildlife are under veterinary care at all times. We have different species from Africa, Asia, Australia, and North and South America. There are about 75 different animals housed at the Center: Siberian Tiger, Siberian Lynx, Cougars / Mt. Lions, Two Toed Sloths, Egyptian Fruit Bats, different types of Monkeys, Ringtailed Lemurs, and numerous different kinds of birds. With your help we can try to save these animals lives for generations to come!
